I’m a novelist with a parallel practice in participatory, place-specific writing. Fascinated by the relationships between stories, places and communities, my work explores identity, belonging, landscape and home. I have a particular interest in urban spaces and urban change.
I work with people to explore and create collective and individual stories – navigating a route amongst oral history, opinion, aspiration and imagination.
My current research, and the subject of my (just!) submitted PhD, centres on home in all its complexity, with a particular focus on ideas of loss, nostalgia, departure and return.
I am a lecturer in Creative Writing at Manchester Metropolitan University.
